Karada is perhaps one of the most widely known knots in Shibari, and one of the easiest ties!! It's a classic, and you'll find countless videos and tutorials demonstrating how to tie it. The beauty of Karada lies in its versatility and safety.
When tied correctly, Karada doesn't put tension on the neck or any other potentially dangerous areas. It's a beginner-friendly shibari tie that allows you to master the diamond pattern that Shibari enthusiasts adore. What I love most about tying a Karada is that you can let your imagination run wild and create your own variations and modifications.
Gote, also known as TK (short for takate kote), is a foundational knot used in Shibari and is a prerequisite for those interested in suspension play. This knot serves as the base for many other ties and is widely popular among Shibari artists.
However, it's crucial to approach Gote with caution. Due to its complexity and potential risks, it's essential to thoroughly research safety guidelines before attempting it. Proper placement of the ropes is vital to prevent nerve damage or injury to the model's hand. They offer loads of room for creativity and exploration as you don't follow a set structure or pattern, and there isn't the need for the symmetry that is found in some other styles of shibari ties. Webs can be tied almost anywhere on the body, allowing you to experiment with various patterns and styles.
To begin learning webs, it's helpful to understand the basic pattern and then build upon it using your imagination. However, it's crucial to prioritize the model's comfort and safety, avoiding any suspensions that could put undue strain on the body. Take the time to communicate with your model throughout the tying process, ensuring their satisfaction and comfort.
